Why is it such a good idea to learn ASL?

It helps you connect!

It is estimated that over 5% of the world's population, or roughly 400 million people, are hearing impaired in some way. Learning ASL can help you be a part of their conversations, helping them communicate in everyday situations with others who may not know ASL!

It's a brain booster!

Being bilingual, whether spoken or signed, strengthens communication skills, creativity, increases memory, and improves general cognitive function. ASL can also help improve fine motors skills in your hands, as well as your spatial awareness and visual-perceptual skills!

It's beautiful and diverse!

Did you know there are different accents and dialects of ASL in the United States? Just like spoken accents, these small differences in language are exciting to encounter! For example, Philadelphia is known for having a sign language that more resembles French Sign Language than ASL!

Who is behind Ring a Bell for ASL?

Hi, I'm Linda!

Meet Mrs. Linda Bell, founder and CEO of Ring A Bell for ASL.

Linda is a CODA, a Child Of Deaf Adult. She grew up with a deaf mother, and accommodated her needs as a young child, and throughout her mother's remaining years. Ms. Leola May Bell passed away in 2018. Mrs. Bell was so inspired by her mother's tenacity and steadfast persona, she decided to name the business Ring A Bell for ASL in 2021 in her honor on her birthday, April 21.

Bell received her (ITP) Interpreter and Deaf Studies degree from Mott Community College-Flint, and also a Bachelor degree from The University of Michigan-Flint. Mrs. Bell established BFA Communications, LLC, served as freelance interpreter for the State of Michigan.

Linda has performed as a community liaison for many years, bridging the gaps of communications between organizations, foundations, sororities, and other clubs, while remaining passionate to teach children and adults American Sign Language (ASL) for over three decades. She has welcomed the Deaf, Blind, Hard-of-Hearing and the Deaf Blind community into her classrooms, continuing to fully engage, educate and enhance the skills of her ASL students.
